PAst Event Series:

Science and Spirituality Series February 2023

Do you wonder about how modern science relates to our spiritual lives?  We all value science.  But modern science has evolved over the years from its origins as a method of inquiry into a mechanistic worldview – a world of inanimate matter in which all physical phenomena follow strict causality, in which free will is an illusion, and in which consciousness is nothing more than electrical brain activity.  Sometimes it is hard to imagine how God and spirituality can fit into this worldview.  What interesting conclusions can we draw about reality if we look at science’s own recent encounters with the limits of this mechanistic and deterministic paradigm?  Is the mechanistic worldview necessary to science at all?  Or can we find an alternate conception science that is compatible with a more holistic worldview?

Saint Ambrose Church will be conducting a weekly seminar to discuss this important topic for three weeks beginning the 26th of February at 3PM (Please note this is a different start date than originally planned).  We will base each session on the book “Science Set Free” by Rupert Sheldrake.  Each session will be 90 minutes.  Refreshments will be provided.  We welcome as our seminar leader Dr. Antonia Galdos, Ph.D., Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, and Continental Phenomenology.
